Microsoft Zune in UK

Microsoft’s Zune has never been officially released here in Blighty, instead relying on tech evangelists and import fanatics to gain ground. Until now, that is. The Big M has confirmed that Zune software will be the way you sync up a phone packing Windows Phone 7, and as such it means it’s bringing its stellar line up of services to the UK.

When the service arrives customers will be able to purchase music tracks from the Zune Marketplace and listen to them on a Windows-based PC, Windows Phone 7 or Xbox 360. The Zune Pass will provide unlimited downloading and streaming access to the Zune music catalogue for £8.99 per month, although an Xbox Live Gold membership is still required to access the service on the Xbox 360.

Microsoft also has an MP3 player with the same name - which never officially made it to the UK and probably never will. Here, the company should do better with the software side of things, as it can claim massive distribution welly, through tie-ins with Windows-based PCs, Windows Phone 7 and XBox Live. OK maybe not Windows Phone 7... if Microsoft really wanted to make Zune fly on mobiles, it would be better off integrating the service with Android. But perhaps we are missing the point.

You will be able to do it all with music purchase, video purchase and video rental facility. Zune also provides full integration of Windows PC, Zune and Xbox LIVE.

HP launches Photosmart eStation Android tablet

HP today showed off “Photosmart eStation” printer, which comes with a detachable 7” Android tablet. This tablet lets you access HP’s web-connected printing apps; you can also use it as a digital photo frame, for web browsing, social networking and more.

The Tablet with printer will be sold for $399. According to HP, tablet has a Freescale i.MX51 CPU, and can run for 4 to 6 hours with single charge.

The tablet runs Android 2.1 and has a few important apps built in, including Facebook, Email, and weather apps. But it doesn’t include access to the Google Android Market for downloading and installing third party apps.

I’m not sure how hard it would be to install apps manually, but HP has hand-selected a bunch of apps that will work well with the device — and with the printer. It looks like HP also designed a custom user interface which runs on top of Google Android. There is a music player, which is one of the only apps that’s not directly tied to the printer.

Apple relaxes Google Voice apps again

Apple is once again admitting apps built around Google Voice into its App Store, after a high-profile stand-off. Last summer, Apple hastily ejected a series of apps built on Google's VoIP service from the iPhone App Store. Google Voice allows users to make cheap long-distance calls, potentially upsetting Apple's telephone network partners.

Google Voice apps had originally been allowed on the App Store but had then been banned because they supposedly duplicated iPhone features even though there were fundamental differences. However since the dramatic turnaround from Apple it seems things really are changing. Yesterday we heard that GV Connect had arrived in the App Store, bringing Google Voice to the iPhone and now today Samuel Axon over on Mashable , sourced from BGR, tells us that yet another Google Voice App has now been approved.

The developer of the GV Mobile + app, Sean Kovacs, said that the app had now been approved and went on Twitter to say that it will be coming. The cost will be $2.99, the same as GV Connect, and it will enable playback and transcription of voicemails plus call imitation along with many other features. It does seem then that Apple’s reversal in policy is set to be a good thing for many and hats off to Apple for realizing this.

GV Mobile + now appears on the App Store, priced at £1.79

Nintendo 3DS

The awesome Nintendo 3DS could be making its way into the wild on 20 November. That’s according to a tweet from an accessories maker, who reckons his add-ons for the three-dimensional winner will go one sale “simultaneously” with the console.

The employee of Keys Factory, which has made a number of extras for the handheld hub. One of the workers there sent out a tweet saying…

“On November 20th, the 11 goods I designed for use with the 3DS will go on sale simultaneously. Those of you buying the 3DS, please buy them while you’re at it! This will be officially announced on the homepage eventually, lol. Best regards.”

Of course the designer who made the goods for the 3DS might be wrong although we assume the company is given a rough date to work towards so that they are ready for a simultaneous launch.

We’ll watch out for details in a couple of weeks time to let you know how much it will be and when/where it is getting launched.

Viewsonic ViewPad 100 dual boot with Android and Windows

Viewsonic’s ViewPad 100 dual boot 10-inch tablet PC with Android and Windows OS dual-boot OS, now more details have been announced during IFA event held in Berlin recently. Named as ViewPad 100, the device is powered by Intel Atom processor clocking at 1.66GHz supporting both Windows 7 and Android version 1.6 to compete against Apple’s famous iPad and other tablet PCs in the market.

After all, having Android 1.6 running on it isn’t exactly going to excite anyone, despite the fact that you can always boot up Windows 7 as an alternative. We’re still trying to figure out how a dual booting tablet will fit into the average Joe’s life, but if it ever takes off, it will probably occupy an extremely niche market. Other hardware specifications of the ViewSonic ViewPad 100 include a 10-inch LED display at 1024 x 600 resolution, an Intel Atom N455 1.66Ghz processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB SSD, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, a G-sensor, A-GPS, a couple of USB ports, a miniVGA, microSD memory card slot and an integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam.

Targeted to be available in October 2010 for Europe market, the device will be retailed at £549 (equivalent to $848) which is quite pricey for average users. However, no confirmation on when will it be available to US market yet but it shouldn’t be too late as long as there is demand for dual boot tablet PC.

HP Wireless TV Connect Streams HD Videos

HP announced more then just laptops, but this product is a bit of and odd man out. For whatever reason they’ve decided to come out with a wireless media streaming box. Makes sense, until you start reading up on exactly how it works. The video does stream at 1080p, so that’s cool; but after that, it just gets strange.

HP has come up with its own standard rather than Wireless HD and the sound and image apparently will be lag free. We do wonder if there’s enough bandwidth to send more than stereo audio, as if the connected TV is HDMI 1.4 enabled it could send surround sound from the laptop to an amp under the TV, via the audio return path.

No adaptors are required as power comes via HDMI but both the boxes are on the bulky side, though you can clip the transmitter box to the back of your laptop screen.

Software installation isn’t necessary and you apparently won’t experience any lag. The HP Wireless TV Connect will be compatible with almost every laptop that sports an HDMI port and isn’t limited to HP notebooks only. The HP Wireless TV Connect will be retailing for $199 when it’s available this October.

Google Chrome 6

Chrome has celebrated its 2nd birthday with the introduction of the stable version of Chrome 6 for the masses. Chrome 6 is 3 times faster than the first version of Chrome, which shows leaps and bounds of improvement.

Google Chrome also has one of the fastest development cycles, and has quickly reached version 6.0 for their stable version and version 7 for their development cycle. Chrome 7 is exciting in several ways with the introduction of hardware acceleration and voice translation along with Chrome Labs which should be part of dev channel shortly.

The interface tweaks aren’t major, but add to the browser’s simplicity. Most noticeably, Chrome’s two major menus have been consolidated into one. Some buttons (like bookmarks) have been shifted around, the color scheme has been revisited, and loading a page over HTTPS now displays a green padlock in the URL bar.

Google Chrome 6 includes patches for 14 total security vulnerabilities, including six high-priority flaws, and the company paid out a total of $4,337 in bug bounties to researchers who reported the vulnerabilities. A number of the flaws that didn’t qualify for bug bounties were discovered by members of Google’s internal security team.

The new release of Chrome also fixes an older bug, a Windows kernel flaw, that Google had thought it fixed in a previous version. The highest bug bounty, $1337, was paid for an integer error in WebSockets found by Keith Campbell. A second high-priority flaw, a sandbox parameter deserialization error, was discovered by two members of Adobe’s Reader Sandbox Team.

Google says today’s JavaScript performance is three times faster than the original build in 2008, and plenty of low, medium and high-ranking security holes have been patched in the latest edition.

Perangkat lunak Open Source

Mengapa Menggunakan Open Source Software?

Apa saja Alternatif Open Source Software?

Gratis Tidak Berarti Buruk
